If you have seen the movie A few good men” and then seen Shaurya, you would have said “what an inspiration (read copy)”

If you have not seen the movie A few good menbefore watching Shaurya, you’d have said “Oh man ! How inspiring!”

I am not sure which one to see first, but most certainly Shaurya is a very well made desi version of “A few good men” and this despite including the typical Bollywood elements- the melodrama and the absolutely unnecessary songs.

Ok, what is Shaurya all about ?

Shaurya is beyond a court room drama that tries to highlight a very important issue amongst us i.e. the cultivated hatred towards the minorities and their communities because of one stray incident. Obviously, you can’t blame a whole community for the fault of one individual and that is the key message here.

Akshay Shah, a fellow blogger says

When I first heard Bollywood was attempting a remake of what I consider to be one of Hollywood’s finest films; A FEW GOOD MEN; I groaned in disappointment as I simply couldn’t see Samar Khan (who earlier directed KUCCH MEETHA HO JAAYE) doing any kind of justice to it. However I was wrong..dead wrong as SHAURYA is without a shred of doubt one of the finest films Hindi cinema has churned out this year

From a performance standpoint, Kay Kay Menon stands out, yet he is no comparison to Jack Nicholson. Rahul Bose handles the movie brilliantly with changing emotions from a carefree military officer to a responsible yet subtle army lawyer, Major Sidhanth.

I was expecting Jaaved Jaffrey to be playing his comical self. After seeing him in the moving, this is indeed a much welcome relief with the kind of role he has been bestowed with. It takes the skills of an actor like him to come up with a very deep and versatile performance like this. Kudos to the director for having taken such a bold decision. Jaaved is surely one of the best but grossly underutilized talents available in Bollywood.

The casting and the dialogues have been par excellence. There are a couple of songs which were uncalled for. The editing, the background, the sceneries, settings etc are below average. Despite all these fallacies, the film scores on a strong story line and a very strong message.

Go, watch it for a few good men in the movie – Kay Kay Menon, Rahul Bose, Jaaved Jaffrey et al and the story, of course.

For now, take a sneak peak here
