How did it happen in a state ruled by a communist government? One of the only two remaining communist states of the country faced the worst defeat. It was hard to believe that Mamata won over Buddhadeb.

If this was really a matter of justice for the poor, how did Buddha fail to see it? Communist parties may have failed in India and may not have been able to be the real voice of the common man, but there were quite a few of us who believed West Bengal was liberated enough and communism almost meant a religion there.

So has communism lost the battle of for the people, of the people, by the people?  TATA’s departure from Singur raises many concerns.  Mamata may be an over dramatic woman but is also being seen as the voice of the oppressed now.

Could this be an awakening we all have been waiting for?  Do we now have a politician who is really concerned about what the people need and will fight for it? Making it happen not just for them but for a whole course of political era in India.

Well, that probably is an over rated statement. But it can be possible too. This should wake up Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and other fast developing states who have been buying lands for the rates of peanuts from farmers and selling them for gold’s worth to MNCs and other SEZs.

One state again has showed that it’s not difficult to put the imperialistic industrialists of in place. So what if TATA moved to greener pastures in Gujarat, this can be the starting of a time when big business houses will work on some ethics while trading with the not so lucky in life.

Couple of months ago I was doing some land hunting on the Srisailam Highway belt. The whole way there were real estate company’s signs, boards, and banners. The names were oh so international, Sydney (with a picture of Kangaroo, hilarious), Aliens space station (whatever that means), XXX township etc. All farm lands, poultries, grape yards or just plain greenery that you would love to see on a long ride.

But with the advent of corporate real estate it’s not an illusion but a reality that in a few years those lands will turn into concrete forest. All these lands have been bought for almost 1/3 of the rate that they are being sold to customers. If I’m to believe talk, farmers have realised that they are being cheated cheaply; some of them have turned into real estate agents themselves. Can this be called true progress?

It’s time for more Mamatas and Medha Patkars to evolve. India awaits a true revolution from leaders who are persistent, patient and can give a life time to a cause. It’s time communist leaders learn how to win battles for us. If the Nuclear deal with US states doom for us in years to come, communist leaders would have lost another battle.

Did i get a gist of this message as Communist rule aint doing a big deal of work in India? I think, you should open your eyes one more time, and revisit India. One place where I’d suggest is Kerala – a word of mouth I’d like to pass on from a native frn from there. Forget the Singur deal, the Nuke deal, the real estates, everyone here is there to make money..whilst its a little different out in Kerala. Find me one person who has the guts to smoke on the road…oh yea…am a Hyderabadi and did they not put a ban on smoking?????? Don’t u still see people smoking in Hyderabad?

I am looking forward for India to be like China, that is what i’d call Communal Rule…

Btw, Communist Rocks…the only thing you need is vote for them :)

    Regards,

The Word is not Enough so is Communist :)

    Hey James,

Am I glad that your response was posted!! Thanks so much for it!
The gist of my write up is not to do away with Communism. Gist was to take it up with a different vigour, something we have all been waiting for. West Bengal and Kerala have failed to make communism a success and spread it across the nation. The reason our basic nonchalant value irrespective of the government we have. It’s time communists in our nation revamp themselves. I fail to believe that basics will take 60+ years to mend if we had an active communist or people’s party thriving.
The fact that you choose a ban to be followed depending where you are says the ban itself means not much to you. So you can smoke away anywhere you want with PRIDE!!! So MR 007 let’s not smoke communism up, but define it differently. Too much time lost already but it’s never too late :)

    Sonrisa!

One analysis that seems to be missed quite often in the Nano case is that what Mamta did to the communists is nothing new . The communists had done the same thing way back in the 1960s.The anti-zamindari movement then had as scant respect for property and non-violence as Mamta has now . They had used the same tools to agitate for the movement as Mamta has . Although two wrongs donot make a right , still the Commies should have understood that the lawlessness they had used to come to Power can be used to defeat them too .
I hope one lesson that the Communists take from this is that law of the land should be respected in all cases.
Hoping that Bengal rises from ashes to regain its old grandeur
