It really disturbed me when I came across this shocking incident which took place in Warangal, India last week. Two young girls were attacked by a guy who apparently was in love with one of the girls. The boy splattered acid on them while they were driving a two wheeler. All this just because the girl scorned his proposal for love.

This girl is an engineering student with high aspirations, has now lost her eye sight and is fighting for her life in the hospital.

I was really disheartened, when I saw girl’s parents expressing their grief for their child. It made me ponder for a while, isn’t there any humanity? How safe is it for parents to send their children out and wait for their safe return. Such incidents have generated panic and a sense of fear among the people especially women. Has the judicial system been fair to all such similar incidents?  Such culprits are turning out to be so remorseless that they feel they can get away from any sort of crime. There has been no effort from the government to put a control on such incidents.

There have been many such instances during the past where young women were attacked. The number of attacks each year seems to be on a rise.  Even after these incidents were brought before the eyes of the public, these callous criminals managed to get away from the crime claiming to be a close acquaintance of a well known personality or either by bribing the authorities.

Most of these offenders have come out on bail due to improper prosecution statements. Even in this case, the girl had initially complained to the police that she and her family have been threatened by the boy many times. The boy was arrested, and it took him less than 24 hours to get out of the case.

Though in this case the three culprits were shot dead by police during a tussle with the police escort. While I am not totally supportive,  this will serve as a message to all those criminal minds out there that plan on such ruthless acts.

Why should the police wait for another incident like this to happen? Why can’t they make their first step right? May be if the authorities had taken some stringent measures and considered the complaints seriously, we would not have seen this day where this kind of attacks still seem to persist.

It’s a pity where the whole country is battling against the external terrorism on one side and there are people on the other side facing danger from the fellow citizens within the country. Drastic changes are a need of the moment. I hope the government will realize this and take some additional measures for safety of Indian women or for that matter any citizen.

Hey your article really touched my heart. I concur with your assessment of the situation. Its so agreeable that this has become a very common issue in india. Even i strongly feel that its hightime for indian government to start taking things seriously. I reckon your message will really be helpful to open up everyone’s eyes…goodluck!!

I liked how the article highlighted about the crime in India especially on Young Women.I think it is a high time the laws needs to get tougher for these kinds of acts.I totally agree that rather than external terrorism there are more thousands being killed by such kind of ruthless acts…

That’s true. I understand. The problem is with everybody in india. The fault is with the way we perceive women. The government or the laws can do very little except punishing the guilty in such cases. We should make sure that our children grow with the right attitude towards everything.

    Nithu,

Excellent post. I think the law of the land is responsible for these kind of atrocities. How many days, months, years it takes for some of these cases to be resolved. Our judicial system is pathetic, to say the least. On top of it you have the netas supporting these kind of acts. Take the recent Goa incident where the Minister’s son was involved.

These ought to end. You’ve raised the right issue. And I think someone needs to take these things up, actively.

    Regards

I totally agree with what you have said nithu. Its about time every citizen of the nation empathizes with such victims and turns responsible enough to take measures to end such catastrophes.

This post deserves kudos. Infact this is the right time to raise such an issue. There have been many such ghastly incidents which have taken place in the past too.But its only during a short period, that these incidents become talk of the town and later the concerned authorities hush the case.

The government should take serious measures, so that every criminal mind would be scared to death even before their minds plan such hideous acts. Its pathetic to hear that the hapless girl has lost her vision. I wonder what the women’s welfare association is doing.

Excellent article Nithu…I agree with you…Indian Police have got to be more pro-active. Even though what happened with the two girls is very unfortunate…hopefully , after this incident, people will think twice before committing such horrible crimes

    Nithu,

Its an unfortunate incident. There are many more similar cases in which the culprits are roaming around freely. They should be brought to justice asap.

Well, as the matter of fact the police or the crime control department in india cannot take any steps until something really happens. Precautions can be taken only when something like this happens. But it’s difficult to predict who a psycho is to know his acts before he commits them!
Unfortunate thing is things like this are uncertain…..and they is no static solution to these! gotta take dynamic solutions for time to time!

Nice to jot down all the things at one place to debate about ….. whoever has done this!! its a nice pick!
