So far you learnt the importance of setting expectations, goal setting, planning, prioritising, decision making and avoiding procrastination. These were the top six topics that we discussed. Talking of six, let us see in this article how delegation and six sigma principles can change the way you live and creating ample of time and opportunities for you.

7. Delegate your responsibilities

It is a common phenomenon nowadays that people expect more out of you. They would like to use every opportunity to extract the maximum from you. In a way it is good because they understand your importance and the responsibility that you can shoulder upon.

In order to please our employers, family members etc we take upon ourselves responsibilities beyond our capacity. In such cases, the best way to manage is to delegate responsibility. Delegation is not just meant for your managerial life, but the life itself.

More hands at work mean more output which in turn result in more results. All you need to take care is that of the quality of the output. As long as the quality of delivery is in tact, delegate as much as you can. Then you just need to manage those that you delegated there by generating time for yourself for your associates, your managers etc

On the contrary, if you can not delegate properly and on time, you will find yourself in a quagmire not knowing to get in or get out.

8. DMAIC your life

Now what does this mean ? Well, DMAIC is a term that is commonly used in Six Sigma. It is a 5 step solution to every problem that you can ever come across. DMAIC stands for Define, Measure,  Analyze, Improve and Control.

In a real life scenario, you encounter several problems. If only we have the time and energy to analyse it to the fullest extent possible, we would have lived a far more objective and comfortable life.

Take a step back – this is reality where you don’t even have time to think, forget about time for an in-depth analysis. So, inorder to expedite things and do a quick turnaround on your problems, adopt the time tested method of defining, measuring, analyzing your problems and subsequently improving and controlling it.

I do not want to get into the depth of Six Sigma but can certainly assist you where you can get some of the best resources available to study the subject. Visit iSixSigma

And don’t worry about its authenticity and practicality – some of the best companies in the world deploy Six Sigma, Prominent among them being Motorola, GE, Bank of America etc.

Although, I am not a big fan of Six Sigma as I strongly believe nothing is better than human intuition to solve problems but then my choice shouldn’t be the basis for your selection. Tools like this should be used to aid the process of problem solving. Just take care that the tools don’t become the problem itself.

Again, I am not preaching Six Sigma here, lets be clear. All I am saying is that DMAIC is an excellent and quick problem solving methodology that can give you result in no time, thereby saving you quite a lot of time

Brood over it for some time and start practising what is best for you…

In other words, the six sigma methodology approach statistically helps to solve a practical problem. Well how does it do that? See below:

Practical Problem > Statistical Problem > Statistical Solution > Practical Solution…
