A couple of weeks back, Balaji Telefilms, declared that they will bring a twist into their soap opera – Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. If it was a normal twist in the characters or the storyline, no one would have ever given a thought. No, this is not that case to be. Instead, it publicly sought to introduce honour killing of one of the characters.
The timing was perfect – It couldn’t have had a better impact, if Aarushi had not been murdered a couple of weeks earlier, her father had not been arrested a week later, her man-servant had not been killed and media had not given enough coverage to the whole issue. Net result – Balaji Telefilms made an issue out of a non-issue. If they had to bring a twist, why did they announce in the first place. Have you ever seen the story of a suspense thriller being told before the film hits the theaters and that too by the promoters of the film? It is ridiculous, outrageous, inhumane and definitely shows the materialistic mindsets of the film makers – how vulgarian they can become.
Nivedita Basu, the so-called creative head of Balaji Telefilms lost her creativity this time, she said “No, this does not resemble Aarushi’s case – This is honour killing”. As if the tragedy was not enough, the Talwars already struck with the loss of their daughter, now have to deal with jokers and absolute vulgarians of the world. The Noida police had already shown how derogatory and senseless they can be and they have repeated this several times enough to prove that they are more senseless than the common civilians.
Renuka Chaudhury, the Minister of State for Women and Child Development, writes a letter to Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, the Minister for Information Broadcasting, asking him to stop Balaji Telefilms from commercialising the Talwar tragedy. Did it help anyone ? Yes, it helped many indeed ! My list shows at least ten personalities or corporates benefiting out of a tragedy
- Balaji Telefilms got its mileage. I am sure there would be more Saas and Bahus trying to find out if the twist indeed is honour killing or not. If they couldn’t get the TRPs during the IPL season, they had to find a strategy to get back to business. And what better than commercializing the death of a young girl. No investment, free publicity and an unexpected viewership – all at one shot.
- Renuka Chaudhury – She has her votes for the next election guaranteed. I will not be surprised if Ekta Kapoor, the owner of Balaji Telefilms, calls Renuka for a friendly dinner and gives her a taste of Hyderabadi Biryani. Being in Delhi, she would have been missing home, anyways. Now, here is another reason for her Biryani
- Priya Ranjan Das Munshi - What if he could not save many from Singur episode, what if he had the last laugh on all media matters, this issue has definitely brought him to the forefront. Right or wrong – he will be the man to watch for some time. Could very well be a Prime Ministerial candidate. Next 5 years and he has all his eyes set on the chair. Not everyone wants a young Prime Minister in Rahul Gandhi
- NDTV, CNN IBN, AAJ TAK and all those umpteen channels which focused on this murder case. There are several deaths happening all across the country. The other day, I heard, a truck fell down into a canal and we lost 27 lives. No one thinks of them. There are several farmers who die every year. None of them are even counted by the media, forget about coverage. And here is a troupe of media persons fencing the Talwar residence and a few miles surrounding it, as if that’s the only news in the world
- Deccan Chronicle, Hindu, Times of India and even Economic Times (which is supposed to be a business news paper) – They have half a page covered with utter rubbish. Every Tom, Dick & Harry reports the same news – over and over and over again. Nothing new. Nothing spectacular ! Ask them for half a page advertisement for half the regular price – You will get turned away.
- And yes – how can I miss the Senior Police officials who took the first opportunity to give a press conference and show their articulation skills, publicity stunts etc.
This is our world, my dear. Where one’s tragedy makes way for one’s happiness. One’s pain is the other’s gain. Hate to say this, but, that’s the truth – Nothing but the truth. Live it !
May Aarushi’s soul Rest In Peace – Amen !
